In Grantland’s Bill & Jalen’s NBA Preview show, Jalen Rose predicted that Michael Jordan will come back for one game.
Well, it seems possible for Jordan to comeback and play even if its only for a game. Despite the fact that Jordan did say in an interview a few months ago that he doesn’t see himself coming back from retirement, it is still possible for him to play in the league.
First reason is that he can still play. Although he gained a few pounds and his athleticism is not the same as before, he can still play with the young players in the league. There are some videos on YouTube that shows Jordan playing with some of the players of the Bobcats after practice sessions and well, he’s schooling them. There’s a clip where he played Jason Richardson 1-on-1 and defending the younger Richardson very well. Also, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is on record saying that Jordan dominated him in a 1-on-1 game. I don’t care if it’s only for 10-20 minutes, I still want to watch him play out there. How great is it to watch Michael Jordan wearing that famous #23 on his back and posting up the likes of Kobe or LeBron?
That brings us to our second reason… Jordan still has that fire burning in him. He still wants to know whether he can still play against the young stars of today’s NBA. That fire will never go away for the likes of Jordan. It’s completely embedded in their nature.
Third reason, money. We all know the Bobcats is one of the worst teams in the NBA. They don’t have history and stars players to flaunt. They only have the greatest player ever as one of the worst NBA owners. Yup i said. I know a lot of you guys will agree with me. But he’s turning things around in Charlotte, by drafting MKG, Kemba Walker and the highly ranked rookie big man Cody Zeller. The Bobcats’ future is looking bright because of those players. Just like what Bill Simmons said in the video, their biggest problem is that they cannot sell jerseys and tickets. Imagine Michael Jordan coming back in a game versus the Lakers or the Heat, the hype for that game will be bigger than LeBron’s decision special. The ticket demand will soar to new heights and of course the prices will go higher. Michael Jordan’s #23 jersey will sell all over the world, even if it says “Bobcats” in front. That will help their organization in a big way, even if it’s only for a game.
I’m sure there are a lot of you guys that are wishing for Jordan to come out of retirement.
Count me in.
