2013-2014 NBA Season: Miami Heat Preview

By Joma Ablay and Oliver Nobuta

Who’s excited for the start of the NBA season?

I’m sure most if not, all of us hoop junkies are fired up for this season! Watching all the pre-season games just makes me wish that we can fast forward to the start of the season!

Right? Or am I the only one here that wishes that?

Anyway there are a lot of reasons why we should all be excited for the upcoming season and let’s start with the number 1 reason.

The Miami Heat celebrating the second championship after defeating the San Antonio Spurs in Game 7 of the 2013 NBA Finals.

3peat or Bust?

Winning it all 3 times in a row is not easy , the last time it was done, it was by the Lakers back in the 2001-2002 season.

Despite the fact that Mike Miller was amnestied and was signed by the Grizzlies, the defending champions still got stronger this year.

LeBron James
LeBron is arguably the best basketball player in the world today. In my honest opinion I think he is the best today. Why? Because every year we see something different from him, his ceiling is so high that he still is working on his game and this year he will only get better. The key for the King is health. When your king is healthy, the kingdom will continue to rise but when he is not, other conquerors might take advantage of it.

Chris Bosh
Chris has always been one of my favorite player ever since he was in Toronto. Ever since he joined the Miami Heat he was always been criticize for being “soft” but not many realizes how important he was in the success of the Heat. He plays defense well, can stretch the floor and can make the occasional 3’s. This year we may see him playing his natural position as a PF along side Oden. That would be really scary! At least for the opposing team.

Dwayne Wade
Don’t count out Dwayne Wade just yet , everyone last year was certain that he was not playing at a superstar level due to his injuries and his age. Coach Spo is on record saying that D-Wade might be playing less minutes this season to save him for the playoffs grind.Β But he proved all the doubters again by winning it all last year. Although he is aging he still is a top 10 player in the league.

With the addition of Greg Oden , the Heat now has a legitimate Center that can anchor the defense of the 2nd unit. IF and that’s a big if , Oden can stay healthy all season. Unless Oden can prove he deserves playing time, look for the Bird Man and UD (Udonis Haslem) at the front court. Also, don’t be surprised if Rashard Lewis gets some playing time because Coach Spo also said Lewis might play more minutes this season. Don’t forget Michael Beasley, the former number two overall pick. He can still play, the question is, is he up to that same mental level as the big three? For sure D-Wade, Coach Β Spo and Pat Riley will have big roles in the development of Beasely.

I think the success of the Heat in winning another championship lies in there sharp shooters.Β Remember what Ray Allen did in that supposedly San Antonio game 6 win?

Although Mike Miller left , there are capable shooters that still could step up such as Shane Battier, Mario Chalmers, Rashard Lewis and James Jones.

Can the Heat 3peat?

As we stressed out earlier in this article, it will really depend on the Heat’s three point shooting and their incredible defense.

Lets just sit back , watch and enjoy on what this special group can do. One thing is for sure though, it will be fun watching them play!

64-18, 1st in the East, best record in the league.
